Hey Mates
Higher Education for Youth for Military and Trades
Hey Mates, is a designed after-school program to offer middle school children an opportunity for exposure to three pathways:
*Trade Pathway: Develop partnerships with local trade schools and vocational programs. Integrate applied math and science courses that align with the skills needed in trades like electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, and more.
*College Pathway: Focus on courses that build critical thinking, reading comprehension, and advanced math and science skills. AP classes, honors programs, and college counseling should be integral parts of the curriculum.
*Military Pathway: Implement programs that teach leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, and the importance of civic duty. Offer courses in technology and engineering to prepare students for technical roles in the military.
*The programs length will vary based on the student chosen pathway and academic abilities.
Community and Parental Involvement:
• Workshops and Seminars: Host events that educate parents about the benefits and requirements of each pathway. Involve professionals from each field to share insights and experiences.
• Mentorship Programs: Connect students with mentors from their chosen pathways. These mentors can provide guidance, answer questions, and help students navigate their chosen career paths.
Partnerships with Local Businesses and Organizations
• Collaborate with local trade unions, colleges, and military recruitment offices to provide resources, scholarships, internships, and job placement assistance.
• Develop apprenticeship programs for trades, internship opportunities for college-bound students, and preparatory programs for military service.
